Improvement (no baggage)

I would like us to look for ways to improve ... find things that work and then look for "the next step" ... raise the standard

I think that the way for us to improve is to be specific about the areas for improvement and deliberate in our strategies to achieve "improvement"

We should make a list of things ... specific things ... that we want to change/improve

We need "permission" from each other to do this ...

We also need to let people work out strategies that work ...

We don't need excuses or reasons for not improving ... but people sometimes need to explain themselves e.g. I want us to be as good as we were at The Fringe ... I don't care why we are not ... I want to make sure we get better as quickly as possible ... in order to achieve this we need to deliberately attend to improvement

... it is worth considering that having someone identify what they want to improve without asking them is very powerful ... it instills confidence ...

in the past I think we have been unlikely/unwilling to disclose our own "short-comings" and more likely to make demands and excuses ... I would like to change this ...

... we have shown that we can get to a high standard ... i want to work to stay there, and not "lose touch" ... I am not sure how this happens but given that we aren't going to play "all the time" we have to find another way to overcome this ...

... we shouldn't put up with things that don't work ... we should identify issues and work to fix them ...

I know that if I identify a problem I would like it to be acknowledged and responded to ... I don't want to know why the problem exists ... the focus on explanations makes me think that the issue will not be attended to in a "future sense" ...

... if someone forgets/messes up a lyric, chord pattern, harmony, melody, rhythm, song structure, dynamic then we should identify it and then work out what support/strategy is required to fix it ... it is not enough to say that it is just the "perpetrator's" problem and it is up to them to make it work ... we are all affected and we need to know that it will be attended to ... this doesn't mean that every problem must be fixed immediately ... it means we must all be allowed to own the problem and contribute to it's resolution

this only works if it is done in "good faith" ...

1. identify an issue
2. acknowledge/accept the issue
3. give no excuses
4. discuss possibilities/strategies
5. commit/work

simple in an atmosphere of trust
